Young people are set to reap hugely in Makueni County

Young people in Makueni are set to reap hugely from a partnership grant by the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation targeted at equipping the Makueni Technology and Innovation Hub.

The upcoming ICT one-stop center is situated within the precincts of the newly build Wote Green Park which is at 80% completion status, currently.

The grant agreement was signed on Thursday between Frantisek Dlhopolcek, the Slovakian ambassador in Kenya and the Makueni governor, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana at the Slovakian Embassy in Nairobi.

The Ksh. 500,000 grant, worth of ICT infrastructure will specifically be utilized on equipping the center with computers and related accessories.

Makueni Technology Hub will operate as a public utility where residents can access the internet and other technologies that help them gather information and communicate with others as they develop digital skills.

“Our focus in the use of technology is to support the community in bridging the digital divide, creating economic opportunities and reaching out to youth.” Kibwana explained on the need for community technology centres.

The envoy hinted on other areas of cooperation along the agricultural value addition chain including; bee keeping, macadamia and moringa farming.
